What You Need To Know About Fasted Cardio Before Trying It
Good morning, simply good people. So here’s a question I get all the time: does working out on an empty stomach (aka FASTed exercise) beat a fed (aka eating before exercise) workout for fat burn?
A newly published study provides some insight.
Researchers took active people through four days of a FASTed or FED protocol before a 75 minute run and here is what they discovered. Whether you ate or not before exercise, the total calorie burn was almost identical! No differences were observed in appetite, energy intake, energy expenditure, or glucose concentrations despite clear differences in the metabolic response to exercise between.
So, fasting or eating before exercise really doesn’t make a difference in caloric or fat burning, the results are the same.
The key takeaway? Choose what feels right and keeps you moving—because consistency is what really counts!
